Yield strengths for precipitation-hardening stainless steels are 515 to 1415 MPa. Tensile strengths range from 860 to 1520 MPa. Elongations are 1 to 25%. Cold working before ageing can be used to facilitate even higher strengths.
Also known as Alloy 630, type 17-4PH is the most widely used of all precipitation-hardening steels. Compared to other PH alloys, it requires a simple heat treatment to produce a wide range of properties, including its high strength.

17.4PH stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance. Corrosion tests and service experience have shown that in all aged conditions it is superior to standard hardenable stainless grades such as SUS 420, SUS 431 and SUS 410. Its corrosion resistance is comparable to grade SUS 304 Stainless.
