Type 405 can be easily machined due to its soft and ductile characteristics. This grade of 1.4002 steel 405 plate is not heat treated by the hardening process.

It is hardened by cold working but is only moderately hardened. Stainless steel 405 is the simplest alloy of the family with better engineering properties. It is better than other grades of stainless steel such as an austenitic grade.
